Your appearance doesn't matter to me. What's beautiful is your existence, your self. Facing your own self, setting your soul ablaze, fighting with such vigor... it's quite beautiful.

Apollo to Python in Know Thyself

Apollo is the Gods' representative in the ninth round of Ragnarok, going against Leonidas.

Apollo is a prominent deity within the Greek Pantheon. He is known as the "Sun God" (太陽神, Taiyō-Shin)[3] and is a part of the Twelve Gods of Olympus. He is also known by the title of "Phoebus" (ポイボス, Poibosu)[4] and is considered to be the "Boxing God" (ボクシングの神, Bokushingu no Kami)[5].

Through his own effort, Apollo has earned himself a number of distinguished titles, such as the "God of Philosophy" (哲学の神, Tetsugaku no Kami), the "God of Poetry" (詩歌の神, Shiika no Kami), the "God of Medicine" (医学の神, Igaku no Kami), the "God of Archery" (弓の神, Yumi no Kami), the "God of Music" (音楽の神, Ongaku no Kami) and the "God of Prophecy" (予言の神, Yogen no Kami)[6], being praised as the most talented God.

Appearance[]

Apollo is an attractive man with flowing long light pink hair that reaches down to his torso and a body of good physique.

Like many of the Gods of the Greek Pantheon, he wears items related to Greece such as a laurel wreath, buskin sandals and toga. The toga though has elements of clothing more akin to a kimono such a sash around his torso (Obi) and flower designs on the outside of the chest area with it being opened to show his chest. He is decorated with jewelry with him wearing a necklace extending down his chest that resemble the sun and its rays, a chain that is a part of his sash and a decorated chain around his right leg. Underneath his Divine Weapon, he wears black gloves that only cover his thumbs, index and middle fingers, leaving his ring fingers and pinkies, and the area around them, exposed.

Personality[]

Apollo calls the dead beautiful

Apollo wishes he could've seen the deaths of the Greek Gods in Ragnarok as they must've been beautiful

Apollo appears to be an extremely narcissistic individual, who cares a lot about beauty, when it comes to himself and even others. When he had heard news of the deaths of other Greek Gods in Ragnarok, his first reaction wasn't to mourn them but rather, wish he could've been there to see their deaths as they must've looked beautiful when they died.[7] In addition to being narcissistic, Apollo looks down on anyone who doesn't fit his own standards of what is beautiful. This is especially in the case of Humans such as at the start of the ninth round: when Leonidas leapt in before Heimdall could even finish saying "Fight!", Apollo criticised him for being like a wild beast, considering him less than a Human.[8]

Apollo's narcissistic nature has also made him have a flare for the dramatic, always doing grandiose and expressive poses. This was first demonstrated when he was in the bath and posing for each grand line, not caring if he was nude or not.[3] This did not dim down in battle, with him outright mocking Leonidas with his expressions, words and poses.

Apollo strongly believes that what makes a person beautiful is not what their outward appearance looks like – it's whether or not that person truly knows themself. He thinks that those aren't beautiful are those who rest on the laurels of their good fortune and do nothing more while those that are beautiful are those who know their own weaknesses and don't fear changing themselves.[9]

After the ninth round, Apollo chose to keep the scar on his face as a form of respect and recognition to their deceased enemies, further showing how little he really cares about physical appearance.

Abilities[]

Overall Abilities: Narcissism aside, Apollo is a formidable God in combat, thanks to his extreme reflexes and speed that make him nearly impossible to hit. Combined with his natural talent in boxing, Apollo can counter any attack without losing momentum or breath. So much so, he could put fighters like Leonidas on the ropes where even Leonidas' Völundr could not surprise the God enough to let his guard completely down.

Physical Abilities[]

Godly Strength: Although not on the extent of power-based fighters like Thor or Hades, Apollo himself has displayed incredible physical strength for someone his size, despite being a speed and ability based combatant. As such, he's able to move his arms with immense ease and speed, despite wielding golden gauntlets. And even wield a huge bow much bigger than himself. His punches are quite powerful, as he was able to injure and blow Leonidas away with them, and whenever he fought Python, he defeated him with a single punch, despite the fact the serpent-like demon defeated the army of Ares with incredible ease. His pulling strength is also good, as he was able to restrain the Spartan King with his threads, making him unable to move. During the climax of round 9, Apollo collides against Leonidas’ Phalanx Lambda with Argyrotoxos and manages to break through the shield, piercing Leonidas’ mid section.

Godly Speed & Reflexes: Apollo had demonstrated not only speed to that of a God or Human fighter, but possibly speed that surpasses others. This was demonstrated when an angry Ares, the God of War, tried to slug the Sun God for his insolence while he was in the nude, with Apollo effortlessly dodging and even throwing the God of War into the water. Apollo can even quickly adapt to sudden attacks, with him able to dodge many of Leonidas' surprise attacks despite never seeing them until that moment. The Sun God himself even appears to be able to react to his deflected arrows, ahtrough he doesn't have the movement speed to dodge them.

Godly Durability: Apollo has shown to have quite tough durability, as he managed to survive Leonidas' Phalanx Nemesis, which caused immense destruction on the floor of the arena, and even shocked Zeus with how destructive it was. Although the Sun God did receive a bad injury on his face.

Godly Endurance & Stamina: Apollo has great resistance and can withstand very strong and painful blows. When Leonidas managed to hit Apollo with Phalanx Nemesis, he received the blow directly to his face and hit the ground so hard that he bounced off it and fell back to the ground face-first. Although it took him a while to get up, it didn't take him long, and his reaction was one of happiness and joy, fully accepting the unsightly wound on his face with pride. When his right arm was grazed by his own arrow of light, that was deflected at him, although unable to use his bow anymore for the fight, he still managed to utter enough energy to use his final move, and punch through Leonidas' shield with the same arm.

Mental Abilities[]

Self-Knowledge: Apollo was born as an ordinary and mediocre god, but thanks to his desire to be better, he managed to achieve all his titles, skills and competencies through pure hard work and effort. His knowledge of himself led him to improve and become one of the 12 Gods of Olympus. He is the first natural God who has accepted that he is weak and strived to be the strongest.

Fighting Abilities[]

Master Boxer: Apollo has shown immense skill in boxing, evident by his ability to dodge Leonidas' quick attacks, while also being able to quickly strike back.

Master Archer: Apollo has been classified as a very skilled archer, during his life he has trained and practiced a lot to become "God of Archery", in addition to that he himself has been able to kill several Giants, and destroy the defenses of Argos during the Gigantomachy, and also for the fact of wounding Leonidas numerous times.

Supernatural Abilities[]

Semi-immortality: As a God, Apollo is incapable of dying due to old age.

Divine Physiology: As a God, Apollo possesses physical abilities far greater than any ordinary Human. His body cannot be harmed by mortal weapons; however, he can still be harmed by unarmed attacks from individuals with superhuman strength and Divine Weapons.

Photokinesis: As the God of the Sun, Apollo can produce and control light. He can manipulate and craft the light into fine and durable threads for combat that can block Volundr-level attacks with ease.

Matter Manipulation: Thanks to his threads of light that he can create, Apollo can manipulate and weave them to create any weapon or object he needs. This will open up an infinite number of possibilities such as a Shield, a Lyre, Boxing Gloves, a Bow, etc.

Expectations-Induced Enhancement: Apollo can enhance his physical, mental and supernatural abilities based on the expectations and criticism of others, whether allies or enemies. This was seen when he activated his strongest form because of all the comments from the stands. It is a power that Zeus himself cannot define, since it is not tied to any type of logic or common sense. The more the public's emotion, the more affinity Apolo will have.

Techniques[]

Phoebus' Lyre (The Shimmering Harp) (光輝きて堅琴ポイボス・ライアー, Poibosu Raiā):[10] Apollo creates a pair of hands out of his threads and places his own hands into them, which transforms the Threads of Artemis into a pair of boxing bracers with pronounced wristbands and studded knuckles. These pair of bracers enhance Apollo's close-range boxing abilities.
The Sun Shall Never Set on Me (Embrace of the Eternal Midnight Sun) (白夜の抱擁オレ様という太陽は沈まない, Oresama to iu Taiyō wa Shizumanai):[11] Apollo's strongest battle mode. A power that defies all logic and common sense, Apollo can actually get stronger the more that he lives up to the expectations of those around him, whether they be an ally or an enemy. When this happens, Apollo emits a large amount of light from his body.
Artemis Elenchos (Shining Domination) (光り輝く支配アルテミス・エレンコス, Arutemisu Erenkosu):[12] Apollo wraps his threads around his opponent's limb to immobilise their movement.
Apollo Epicurious (Golden Arrows of the Shining Meteor) (輝ける流星の黄金矢アポロン・エピクリオス, Aporon Epikuriosu):[13] Apollo launches a large wave of his light arrows at his opponent to overwhelm them.
Argyrotoxos (Soul-Piercing Silver Arrow) (魂を射抜し銀矢アリュギュロトクソス, Aryugyurotokusosu):[14] If Apollo cannot draw his bow anymore, he can give the bow back to the statue. The statue will then deform the bow back into threads and form a very thick rope between its hands. Afterwards, the statue drops its hands to the ground and Apollo leans back on the rope while digging his feet really hard into the ground, drawing himself back like an arrow. Once he pulls his right fist back in preparation for a punch, Apollo lifts his feet up from the ground and is sent flying towards his opponent. While flying forward, Apollo's right fist hardens the light energy that is around it, creating an arrow covering it. This attack was powerful enough to destroy Leonidas' Völundr and deal a fatal blow through his body in the final moments of Round 9, though the arrow was broken on impact with the shield.

Equipment[]

Threads of Artemis (アルテミスの糸, Arutemisu no Ito):[15] A set of golden gauntlets with a dark blue underside, three small studs on each knuckle, and small holes above each fingertip. Upon Apollo producing light from his fingertips, they transform into threads that he can use for defensive or offensive purposes.
Moonlight of Artemis (アルテミスの月影, Arutemisu no Tsukikage):[16] Apollo's Threads of Artemis disappear from his hands and right after, a large shadow extends out behind him. A giant statue of Artemis then appears from the shadow, equipped with Apollo's Divine Weapon. The statue weaves the threads it produces to make a giant golden bow, its length being twice as tall as Apollo is. Apollo can use the bow to fire arrows of light, that are invisible when fired because they move at light speed. Because of how fast the arrows are, they are known as the fastest attack in Valhalla and Zeus believes no-one other than himself can defend against them.

Quotes[]

  • (To Python) "Your appearance doesn't matter to me. What's beautiful is your existence, your self. Facing your own self, setting your soul ablaze, fighting with such vigor... it's quite beautiful."[17]
  • (To Python) "Those who know themselves are those who know they aren't enough. Those who know themselves are those who know their own weakness. Those who know themselves are those who do not fear changing themselves. Those who know themselves are those who can, above all others, take pride in their beauty."[9]
  • (To Zeus) "What... What a shame. Their deaths must have been so beautiful... To miss such a scene... what a shame."[18]
  • (To Ares) "All of them... fought with their souls ablaze, did they not? In which case... why bother being sad? They were at... the height of beauty!!"[19]
  • (To Leonidas) "Surely, you weren't referring to me with such vulgarity? Because if so... that would merit divine punishment."[20]
  • (To Leonidas) "Even though I went through so magnanimously told you all "Do not fight" and bestowed upon you a decree of peace and prosperity? Such a spoiled one, you are. In any event, if you wish to speak to me... you must first kneel."[21]
  • (To Leonidas) "I will answer everyone's expectations without fail. For I am the ultimate existence... the Sun God, Apollo."[22]
  • (To Leonidas) "You should understand, do you not? I've set my soul ablaze just to defeat you. The me you see before you, giving his all to the fight... there is nothing... more beautiful."[23]
  • (To Leonidas) "It seems you too, are one who knows himself, and whose soul is ablaze. In which case, there's but one thing left to do. Let's burn our souls together, as hot as we can... until one of us finally burns out."[24]
  • (To Leonidas) "Thanks to fighting with you, and your blazing soul... I will grow even more beautiful."[25]
  • (To Leonidas and Geirölul) "Alright... beauties. You two were... the most beautiful."[26]
