Prime is the 13th chapter of the "Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok" manga series.
Summary[]
For the second time, Humanity faced a bitter defeat. Yet, in that moment, all of Humanity stood tall. For even though their father, Adam, had passed, he had left his children with a great inheritance: the power to defy the Gods and the will to do so.
Meanwhile, Göll begins running down a hallway. She trips and falls down but immediately gets back up, displaying an angry face. Opening the doors to Brunhilde's room, Göll asks her what's going on. A voice behind Göll tells her to calm down and she sees that it's second of the thirteen Valkyrie sisters – Hrist.
Göll points out to Hrist that Adam's knuckleduster was completely unharmed, yet Reginleif died anyway. Hrist explains to Göll that Völundr is more than a Valkyrie becoming a weapon. It is a technique in which a Human and Valkyrie become one. Meaning, they entrust everything to one another – they live together, fight together and die together. Hrist then hugs a crying Göll, who tearfully says she never got the chance to even say goodbye. Hrist comforts her, telling Göll that Reginleif knew what kind of battle they were facing. Suddenly, Hrist begins holding onto Göll very tightly.
The Valkyrie attempts to tell her sister, only to notice Hrist's face has distorted into an angry one, swearing to get revenge against the Gods. This reminds Göll that two personalities exist within Hrist. The meaning of her name is "The Trembling One, Whether That Be with Fear or Anger."
Göll manages to calm her down, only for the both of them to notice Brunhilde angrily shoving pieces of salmiak pies in her mouth, complaining about Zeus ruining her trump card so easily. Brunhilde realizes they have to win the next round, no matter what, and at that moment, she gets a notification on her phone. She looks at it and is surprised, causing her to shove all the pieces of pie on the floor to bring up the Akashic Records on her tablet.
Göll and Hrist get closer to see the notification and it's revealed that the Gods have chosen Poseidon to go up in Round 3. Hrist guesses they want to corner them and Göll questions what they're going to do. She points out that Poseidon is Zeus' older brother and thus, very strong. When she says they'll keep losing at this rate, Brunhilde tells Göll to shut up, threatening to cut her head off while smiling at the same time.
Göll then hides behind Hrist, noting that not even Hrist's outbursts can compare to Brunhilde when she's angry. Bringing up images of the remaining contestants, Brunhilde wonders who could go against the man known as the "Zeus of the Sea."
She scrolls through Qin Shi Huang, Leonidas and Michel Nostradamus, asking to herself who could beat Poseidon. Suddenly, a hand is placed on an image and an elderly man declares he'll go. The image he pressed on was the image of Kojiro Sasaki. However, he is much older. Göll questions why, since all the contestants should've been summoned at the peak of their life, their prime. Brunhilde asks why he has that form and slams her hands on the table, causing the milk jug to begin falling to the floor. However, Kojiro uses his scabbard to catch the milk jug and begins drinking from it. Pleased, he also begins eating the pies off the floor. He thanks them for the delicious feast and while Brunhilde admits Kojiro is more different than she imagined, she realizes that earlier, he caught that milk jug without even letting a single drop of it fall. Kojiro recounts how it's been 400 years since he ascended but in that time, he kept endlessly pursuing the art of the blade. As Kojiro states his evolution is far from over, Brunhilde smiles. Kojiro then declares that right now, this is his prime.
