King vs. King is the 56th chapter of the "Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok" manga series.
Summary[]
Angered, Ares questions what Qin Shi Huang thinks he's doing since he was only being helpful.
Qin Shi Huang hurls Ares away once again
Ignoring him, Qin Shi Huang compliments how soft Hades' seat is. Enraged even further, Ares grabs onto Qin Shi Huang's arm and attempts to assert how he's the God of War of the Twelve Gods of Olympus, only for Qin Shi Huang to once more throw Ares to the side with ease.
As Qin Shi Huang comments on how lively Ares is, Ares wonders how he's been flipped around so easily. Hermes is amused by the fact that Qin Shi Huang is capable of throwing Ares, one of the biggest muscle-heads in Valhalla, around and calls him a curious one. Qin Shi Huang asks if he can have a drink since he's parched and Hermes gladly serves him some honey mead, much to Ares' disbelief. After taking a sip, Qin Shi Huang calls it delicious and asks for Hermes' name. Ares gets up and tries to yell at them for disregarding him, only for the door to slam into his face as Göll opens them. Seeing Qin Shi Huang, Göll says that Brunhilde was right about following those holes in the walls. Brunhilde comes into the room and brings up the fact that she told him to stay in his waiting room, telling him off for making so many holes in the walls of the corridors. Replying with "Moumantai," Qin Shi Huang proclaims the road is where he leads, prompting Hermes to laugh out of amazement while Ares starts to consider him unhinged.
Brunhilde informs Qin Shi Huang that he will be the Human to fight in the Seventh Round
Göll quietly suggests to Brunhilde that he just has a bad sense of direction and after apologizing to Hermes and Ares for disturbing them, Brunhilde tells Qin Shi Huang it's time to go. However, Qin Shi Huang refuses because he's taken quite the liking to this room. He notes that it seems he won't get bored here before Brunhilde reveals she's chosen for Qin Shi Huang to go up in Round 7, surprising Hermes and Ares. Qin Shi Huang quickly jumps up and stands tall, revealing he's grown tired of waiting for his turn. Ares is in disbelief that Qin Shi Huang will be fighting Hades.
Qin Shi Huang decides to enter the arena from the position of the Gods
Brunhilde tells him to come with her to his entrance but Qin Shi Huang reminds her that he walks the path of the Emperor: the road is where he leads. Down at the fighting stage, Heimdall recounts how the score is now tied up at 3-3 and notes that for Round 7, they have an even wilder matchup. He wants to introduce Humanity's representative for this round, only for no-one to come out of Humanity's side of the entrance. Heimdall wonders if he got cold feet, only for a man to ring a gong. Heimdall then notices a large group of Humans have made their way to the Gods' side of the crowd and have lined up between the Gods' entrance and the VIP room. The Humans are all revealed to be former Chinese Emperors, including Zhu Yuanzhang, Liu Bang and Liu Che. Helping to lift something, Liu Bei notes that this is his first physical job in a while.
Cao Pi claims that this is their honor as Chinese Emperors as this is for the sake of the man who was the cornerstone of their nation. Laughing, Sun Quan agrees. Liu Bang yells at everyone to focus and from the top of the stands near the VIP room, all the Emperors lay out a giant carpet for Qin Shi Huang to use to walk into the arena. As he descends down the carpet, Heimdall decides to go with it. He declares that it all began with this man.
Qin Shi Huang enters the arena for the Seventh Round
He annexed the Six Kingdoms of the Warring States and in the blink of an eye, ended the great turmoil that had been engulfing China for more than 550 years (the Spring and Autumn period, and the Warring States period). Where there was no road, he paved it. Where there was no castle, he made it. He united all of China's lands into one, which none before him had done, and became the first Human in history to nearly become the Heavenly Ruler: Huangtian Shangdi. From then on, he called himself by a certain name. The King of All Beginnings, the seventh representative for Humanity – Qin Shi Huang. After he lands in the arena, Qin Shi Huang is met by boos from the Gods while Humanity question if he can even fight, since he was only an emperor.
Tenth of the thirteen Valkyrie sisters, Alvitr, comes through Humanity's side of the entrance and complains about him leaving her waiting. Stomping over to him, she keeps complaining about how he never listens to what anyone says. Recalling how Qin Shi Huang told her "Moumantai" for he is the Emperor, Alvitr brings up the fact that they haven't even practiced their Völundr yet and is even doubtful their hearts can become one.
Qin Shi Huang and Alvitr perform Völundr
Qin Shi Huang suddenly picks her up, telling her not to be so rough and referring to her as his "boyish young lady." In awe of his looks, Alvitr blushes and says this is no fair. Their hearts resonate and Alvitr disappears as Qin Shi Huang gains armor on his shoulders and arms, known as the Pauldron of Divine Embrace. Qin Shi Huang confirms this fits him nicely and Göll worries for Alvitr. Brunhilde tells her to trust in Qin Shi Huang and Alvitr as the two leave the VIP room. In the corridor of the Gods' entrance, Hades looks at his Divine Weapon and says it's been some time since he's used his bident. Someone appears behind him, asking for a moment of his time. Hades recognizes him as Poseidon's servant, Proteus.
Proteus asks Hades to avenge Poseidon
Hades asks what Proteus wants and Proteus brings out what remained of Poseidon's trident, after his battle with Kojiro Sasaki. Crying, Proteus asks Hades to take the last bits of his lord with him and passionately yells for Hades to smite the Humans who killed Poseidon with the hammer of the Gods. Hades brings up the fact that Poseidon wouldn't want anyone avenging him before grabbing the remains of Poseidon's trident regardless. Calling it the elder brother's duty to avenge his little brother, Hades converts the trident's remains into energy and proceeds to fuse that energy into his own bident, causing the bident to gain a fin-like protrusion beneath the prongs.
Hades tells Poseidon they should go together and as he heads to the entrance, Proteus smiles, assuring the late Poseidon that Hades will avenge him. Nervous, Heimdall decides to announce the seventh representative for the Gods and the one to replace Buddha's spot in the Gods' roster.
Hades enters the arena for the Seventh Round
He says that this God has come all the way from Helheim and the Gods' crowd begin getting scared. As he comes through the entrance, the Gods all stand at attention. Heimdall says that when this God walks, the whole world trembles. When he scowls, all before him bow down. In his presence, even the Watchdog of Hell, Cerberus, droops its head and the most fearsome monster, Typhon, purrs like a feline. The eldest of the three strongest brothers of Greece, the "King of Helheim." The seventh representative for the Gods – Hades. Once he's in the arena, Hades sheds his coat. The King of All Beginnings, Qin Shi Huang. The King of Helheim, Hades. The seventh round is a battle between two kings, to decide who will truly stand at the top. Round 7 of Ragnarok – Hades vs. Qin Shi Huang. After Heimdall starts the fight, he immediately backs away.
Hermes, Ares, Göll, Brunhilde, Odin, Michel Nostradamus, Soji Okita, Isami Kondo, Kojiro, Hrist, Jack the Ripper and Hlökk all watch intently. Addressing Qin Shi Huang by his name, Hades apologizes in advance. He states that he has nothing against him and tells him to rue the fact that he's a part of the race that killed his brother. As Hades lifts up his bident, the crowds went silent and they begun to wonder if Hades' first strike would be like Poseidon's Amphitrite. But instead of a flurry of off-handed thrusts, Hades opted to go for a single thrust, loaded with all his tremendous strength. A strike aimed to kill.
Hades attacks Qin Shi Huang with Persephone-Kallichore
Qin Shi Huang narrowly dodges the strike aimed at his head, resulting in the bident breaking the earring on his left ear. Hades proceeds to unleash multiple powerful thrusts that Qin Shi Huang expertly dodges. Ares is in awe at how powerful the thrusts are and Hermes guesses just a single graze will result in death. With the veins of his right arm's muscles visible, Hades jumps up and unleashes a powerful jab – Persephone-Kallichore. Qin Shi Huang just about dodges it but when the bident makes contact with the ground, it breaks it apart as the force of the jab is carried through the ground.
Seeing it follow him, Qin Shi Huang continuously backs away before the wind created by the jab nicks his side as its full force hits the stands. The nick on his side then grows into a larger wound. Heimdall exclaims about how even the gusts of Hades' attack became a weapon. Charging in, Hades thrusts the bident forward and uses Persephone-Lore. As strong wind spirals around the bident, it creates a large shockwave. Lifting up his left arm, Qin Shi Huang uses the back of his left hand to intercept Hades' strike, absorbing its force into his body and deflecting it, much to Hades' surprise.
Qin Shi Huang redirects the force of Hades' attack against him, hitting him in the chest
After that, Qin Shi Huang holds onto the bident and takes in another big breath, transferring the force he absorbed back into the weapon. At the same time that Hades attempts to pull his bident back, Qin Shi Huang lets go of the bident and the extra force that was transferred to it causes Hades to pull back on the bident too hard and hit himself in the chest with the bident's blunt end, sending the King of Helheim completely flying to the opposite side of the arena. As Brunhilde, Göll, Ares and Heimdall express their shock, Qin Shi Huang's technique is revealed to be called Chiyou Armor Style: Heavenly Phoenix's Power Embrace. As Hades lay slumped against the stands, Qin Shi Huang recalls how Hades is the King of Helheim before triumphantly declaring that he is the only king in this world.
