Requiem is the 17th episode overall of the "Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok" anime and the 5th episode of Season 2.
Synopsis[]
The brutal fourth round has pushed both fighters beyond their breaking point; when the winner is finally announced, there is no joy or celebration.
Plot[]
As Jack the Ripper stands up, Heracles commends his durability.
The two face each other and Jack attempts to stab Heracles, however he misses and Heracles punches Jack. Heracles then prepares for a finishing blow and raises his hand, but in that moment, Jack stabs him with his hands in the chest.
Heracles realizes that Jack turned his blood as Divine Treasure and he wasn't trying to pressure his wounds, but to soak his gloves in blood. Heracles then asks Jack what is his color and Jack states it didn't change and admits defeat. Thinking that a finish blow is coming, Hercules instead hugs Jack and states he loves humans. The god's soul then shatters, leaving the gods and mankind speechless. Before disappearing, Heracles states they had a fantastic fight and apologizes for shouting at Jack.
He wonders if Brunhilde was watching and states that he leaves the rest to her to save the human race. As Heracles disappears, Jack wonders what is the color of his own emotions right now. Heimdall announces Jack as the winner of the fourth round. Hlökk return to normal and Jack asks how she feels. However, instead of answering, Hlökk asks how he feels to kill a god. He isn't sure as he never felt this emotion before. Hlökk realizes that he can't even show sadness in such a sad time and is really a pitiable person.
She realizes she is covered in blood and heads out to take a shower. She tells Jack to get to the infirmary as he is seriously injured. As Jack walks away, he recalls Heracles stating he will use all of his power and will save him from his suffering. Jack notes that if he can have one wish, he would wish to see Heracles again. A stone then hits Jack as the people of Thebes grow angry at him for killing their hero.
Arthur Conan Doyle states that the evil of Jack the Ripper has swallowed up even a god, and Jack must not be a human, but a monster. Shakespeare disagree and states they shouldn't avert their eyes from the truth. What appear beautiful is filth, and what appears filthy is beautiful; that too is what humans are. Jack smiles and tips his hat at the crowd as they continue to attack him. Göll cries over Heracles' death and asks Brunhilde if she is happy she had that Jack has killed him.
Brunhilde states that the meaning of "Valkyrie" is "the chooser of the slain" and it's meaningless for them to feel emotion. To save humanity, they must do what they must. Göll sees blood dripping from Brunhilde's fist as she keeps squeezing it. Brunhilde goes into a room where she pays respect to Lü Bu and Adam. She adds another cup for Heracles and is sure that he will forgive her for enshrining him alongside humans. She starts crying and states that when this is all over, she will join him.
As Ares mourns Heracles' death, Loki guesses that everything was part of Jack's strategy, even when he fall on the fence, he made sure he would avoid fatal damage. He went to such lengths to obtain the fence post and act like its his final ultimate weapon, while his true objective was to get enough blood to soak his gloves with it. Loki is annoyed that Jack not only fooled Heracles, but all of the gods.
Hermes states that if it was him, he would never take such a dangerous gamble. Loki guesses that Jack realized he won't be able to beat Heracles unless he puts his life on the line.
Ares states they are wrong and they should praise Heracles, who never gave up and held on to hope. To honor is great friend, Ares intends to continue to hope. Zeus states the score is two-on-two.
Venting his anger over humanity's tie with them, he destroyed the viewing area of the gods and declares they cannot let them lead. Soji Okita was impressed by the fight and notes that there are still lots of strong fighters out there. Isami Kondo agrees and states that the four human warriors were true warriors, and being selected to fight in Ragnarok is a great honor. Soji is quite impatient for his turn. Loki notes that Ares still haven't returned from the restroom; Hermes guesses he is still crying. Loki then decides to leave to go on a walk.
Zeus also leaves, stating he will take a nap. As the two leave, both still clearly angry, Hermes notes they're a bunch of liars. The Norse god waits by a fountain and sees Buddha walking towards him, having waited. Buddha gives him a serious look and wonders if he wants to fight. Loki denies it and states he just had a question for him. He states that just like Buddha, it was his first time seeing Völundr, and he must have gotten overexcited.
He then notes that something was bothering him since the first bout; since Völundr defend against, pressure, and even kill the gods, he wonders if they have always been that strong. The gods would never allow the demigod Valkyries to have such a power. Then Loki remembers a method that could make it possible; he states that in Buddha's spiritual realm they have something similar. By entrusting their lives to one another and sharing the same fate, you can call forth your full physical and spiritual power, a power called Samavadhana.
Völundr isn't simply forging Divine Treasurers and by placing their lives on the line; the Valkyries are obtaining the power to resist the gods. Loki wonders what does Buddha think. He states that this wasn't just one question and that he took so long that Buddha didn't even hear half of it. He asks Loki to give his question in one sentence. Loki laughs and then asks Buddha if he is a traitor. Buddha smile sand wonders what will happen if he is, to which Loki states he will kill him.
The Seven Lucky Gods then appear and state that the traitors deserve judgment. They state that they are the arbiters of justice in heaven, the executioners of heaven, the Seven Gods of Fortune. Ebisu claims they have been waiting to pass judgment on Buddha. Buddha breaks his lollipop, which surprises and scares Ebisu. He states that he never seems to be able to suck a lollipop all the way down and always ends up biting it. He asks Ebisu what was his name again, which angers him.
He attacks to hit Buddha, who spits the lollipop stick out and pierces Ebisu's hand. This enrages the Shinto god and the seven prepare to attack Buddha.
Loki stops them, stating Buddha is his prey and they should not touch him, before saying that he is joking, jumping to the seven gods' side and wondering if Buddha was thinking he is protecting him. Buddha states it doesn't matter for him and states that if they want to fight, they should hurry and fight him. He releases his aura which puts pressure on the gods. Kojiro Sasaki enters, muttering that the heavens are pretty rowdy place. He notes that they are ganging up on one guy and that gods and humans aren't that different after all. However, Kojiro doubts that Poseidon would do this kind of thing. Loki wonders why is Kojiro here now as his turn is over. The samurai states he doesn't approve ganging up on others. He draws his swords and states he will help out Buddha. Ebisu wonders if he is blind as they are outnumbering them. Soji and Isami show up as well, feeling lots of bellicosity. The god Hoteison tells them to leave or they will die, but Soji is excited and wants to join the fight.
