Conflicting Motives is the 18th episode overall of the "Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok" anime and the 6th episode of Season 2.
Synopsis[]
To capitalize on humanity's momentum, Brünnhilde pays a visit to the colossal Tameemon Raiden, the most powerful sumo wrestler in history.
Plot[]
As Buddha and the swordsmen face Loki and the Seven Lucky Gods, Isami asks Kojiro about his wounds.
He states he is good, noting that the doctors there are quite good. Loki tells him to stay in bed as sticking his nose in situation like this will lead to his death, while Kojiro states that the gods are all the same and everyone of them thinks that everything will go their way. The god responds that they don't think it, but make it their way. Soji states that Loki and the Lucky Gods feel bad and if it's okay to kill them, and Isami agrees.
Ebisu goes first, wanting to pay back what Buddha did earlier. He shoots at him, but he easily dodges the bullets, causing the others to wonder where he is even aiming. Loki summons his chained blades and attacks, but the rest easily block or dodge. Soji gets closer to Loki while blocking his attacks, annoying him, as he starts to think that Soji believes he can defeat him. Soji shares the sentiment, but just as they are about to start, Zeus and Odin arrive and stop the clash, stating they have too much energy and don't know what to do with it.
Huginn & Muninn note they didn't had permission to fight and that it's absurd that gods are fighting among themselves at a time like this. Ebisu states that they are Heaven's Executioners and are not taking orders from them. Odin then states the fight is over and releases his aura, causing the glass of the dome garden to break. Loki sneezes and states he is no longer in a mood to fight and leaves to watch the next bout.
The Lucky Gods also leave, but before that Bishamonten tells Buddha that traitors will be judged and he must not forget it. Soji is disappointed, but Isami tells him they should return in their room to watch the next bout. Kojiro intends to do the same, but also apologizes to Buddha for sticking their noses into his business. Zeus tells Buddha that he too should return to his room and to make sure he don't cause any more trouble.
Buddha laughs, causing Zeus to laugh too. Buddha then bites his lollipop stating that the only one who can tell him what to do is he himself. As Buddha leaves, Zeus notes that Buddha is a real piece of work and that Ragnarok isn't going as he imagined. Zeus then also leaves to watch the next bout. Odin then gets excited, scaring Huginn and Muninn as his aura rots away all the plants in the garden.
Göll joins Brunhilde and apologizes for earlier, but Brunhilde tells her she haven't done anything wrong and there is no need to apologize. Göll notes they have a chance to take the lead and Brunhilde agrees, which is why she chose who will be the next fighter. They go to his room; as it is dressed in a Japanese setting, they take off their shoes and proceed inside. They pass large amount of empty food bowl and sake.
As they enter his room, Göll is surprised to see him asleep on his bed with multiple naked women around him. With his gluttony, lust and sloth, she finds him the incarnation of carnal desire. Göll wonders who is he and Brunhilde shows points at the walls where Göll sees many yokozuna handprints. Brunhilde yells for them all to wake up, causing the women to run out of the room. She tells the man that it's his turn, who is disappointed as he was sleeping soundly.
He guesses that if she woke him up, it's because she means to be with him and jumps at her, however, Brunhilde stops him. Göll realizes that he is the greatest sumo wrestler, Raiden Tameemon. Raiden wonders with who he will be merging and if it's Brunhilde, but she denies and explains it's someone who is more appropriate for him. Brunhilde then calls Thrud; despite Raiden's own giant size, Thrud bursts through the room's door as she is unable to fit.
She wonders if Raiden is disappointed that she is a beast of a woman, however Raiden is excited and hugs her, stating big women are his type. Thrud tells him to not joke, but Raiden states he never jokes. Seeing his serious look, Thrud softens up and blushes, shocking Göll that the most powerful Valkyrie is making a girly face. The arena for the next fight is a simple dirt area similar to a sumo arena. Heimdall says that since the score is tied, both mankind and gods can't allow themselves to lose the next fight.
He reveals that mankind's fighter is the greatest sumo wrestler, who was so strong that he was being forbidden from using open-handed slap, open-palm thrust, double-arm lock, forward force-down moves. Even so, he kept winning and was the emperor of the sumo ring for over 20 years, the Unrivaled Rikishi, Raiden Tameemon. Heimdall then proceeds to introduce the god's fighter, noting that he builds worlds for sports and destroys them on a whim. He is the destroyer of fear, Shiva.

Differences in Adaptations[]
- In the manga, the short fight among Buddha, Kojiro Sasaki, Soji Okita and Isami Kondo against Loki and the Seven Lucky Gods is cut short by Zeus and Odin after Loki summons his hooks and is about to clash with Buddha and the humans. In the anime, the fight is slightly extended before the interruption, with Loki getting to use his hooks and fight Okita for a while, with both of them having a longer dialogue threatening each other.
- Brunhilde and Göll took out their shoes before entering Raiden's room.
- Only one elephant was present on Shiva's introduction. In the manga, it was a stampede of elephants.
