Trivia[]
The Four Sages, as a concept, was created by a Meiji era philosopher named Dr. Enryo Inoue. His version of the Four Sages is largely the same as the group in the "Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok" manga except in Dr. Inoue's version, Immanuel Kant is the one who represents modern philosophy, not Jesus. The reason why Jesus may be depicted in "Shuumatsu no Valkyrie: Record of Ragnarok" instead of Kant is due to Karl Jaspers, a 20th century German philosopher, who named Jesus, alongside Buddha, Confucius and Socrates, as the greatest philosophers to ever live.
All members of the Four Sages, except for Buddha, are omitted in the anime adaptation.
