Love is not jealous, love is not proud, love is not vain.

Love is the beacon that guides us closer to the truth of this world. Therefore, I choose to write this book… with love and faith, simply following my own values.

— Gǫllnir, while writing his book in The Will He Bequeathed.

Gǫllnir was one of the 88 Primordial Gods, the husband of the Primordial Goddess of Light, Eirin. For being a master scientist with great expertise in engineering, he was known as the "Great Inventor God" (だいそうじゅつしん, Dai Sōjutsu-shin). He is the writer of the Book of Gǫllnir and was the leading figure in the cult of the People of Gǫllnir. He is the biological ancestor of the "Greatest Demon Slayer of the Heian Period", Sakata Kintoki.

Appearance[]

Gǫllnir was a short, rotund yet broad-framed, large-headed, wide-mouthed, muscular Primordial God with short limbs. He had a broad back with large forearms, and particularly well-developed lower body, with well-toned calf muscles and very thick thighs. He was fair-skinned with light eyes and had a wild mess of light, mane-like hair that reached all the way down to his hips. His long hair connected with his unruly beard that was tied into braids at the lower diagonals, by beads bearing the depiction of petals. Gǫllnir had a thick moustache separated from his beard. The left part of the moustache was shaped into three disproportional strands, while the right part had two strands. His moustache extended to thick hairs extending from just below his nose.

Due to being an inventor, spending his time building gadgets and technological innovations, Gǫllnir usually wore dirtied clothes. His main attire black-patterned smith robe with various pockets over a scrubby, hoodless hazma-like suit. He paired his robe with several belt bags around his waist. Gǫllnir wore two pairs of googles, an unused pair resting on his head and pair he actively wore on his eyes with detachable lens. He had a belt with a Norse knotwork as the buckle. To protect his hands, he wore a mechanic's gloves that were dusty from frequent usage. His hazma-like suit's lower body portion was wrapped below his knees, thus baring his legs. Gǫllnir finished his outfit with a simple pair of sandals.

Personality[]

From what was shown about him, Gǫllnir was very similar to his future descendant, Kintoki: the two of them share the same optimism, kindness and cheerfulness. He was an incredibly accomplished inventor who enjoyed sharing his ideas and plans to others for his future inventions. He was also a loving husband to his wife, Eirin. Gǫllnir was noted by her that he becomes highly energetic whenever he invented innovations, almost childlike. Gǫllnir is content with his quirks though. He had accepted his purpose in the world as developing technologies no one has ever seen before.

Plot[]

Past[]

Gǫllnir is one of the 88 primordial gods born from the original chaos. He was known as the “Great Inventor God” (大槍術神, Dai Sōjutsu-shin). Thanks to his great intelligence, he created the Járngreipr, a pair of gauntlets capable of withstanding any attack. He eventually married Eirin, the great primordial goddess of light.

Later, he gathered around him a group of gods who became his followers, forming the People of Gǫllnir. In time, he disappeared but not before writing the Book of Gǫllnir, in which he told the story of the primordial gods and the world.

Abilities[]

  • Overall Abilities: As a Primordial God, Gǫllnir was one of the most powerful beings in existence. He was a God known for his enormous intellect and creations, having been intelligent enough to have created the blueprints for an efficient Divine Weapon currently used by one of the modern Gods in the series: this feat alone places him around the level of fellow scientist Gods like Beelzebub, whom himself is well-known for being a master scientist. Gǫllnir is even a central figure in Ragnarok, and as a testament to his achievements, he was a survivor of the previous war between the Primordial Gods. He is the author of the Book of Gǫllnir, the book containing the secrets of his time.

Mental Abilities[]

Supergenius Intellect: By his title the "Great Inventor God", Gǫllnir was potentially one of the smartest Gods for his time, if not even in the entire history of the Gods. Gǫllnir was renowned for his many successful creations, including developing the blueprints for Járngreipr – the gloves with the ultimate defense, currently owned by Thor.

Superhuman Memory: To befit his work as an inventor, Gǫllnir had a vast memory, allowing him to write down all secrets and events to what was known to him during his time.

Supernatural Abilities[]

  • Divine Physiology: As a Primordial God, Gǫllnir possessed physical abilities far greater than any ordinary human. His body could not be harmed by mortal weapons. However, he could still be harmed by unarmed attacks from individuals with superhuman strength and Divine Weapons.
    • Semi-Immortality: As a Primordial God, Gǫllnir had a limitless lifespan and was incapable of dying due to old age.
    • Power of Creation: As a Primordial God, he possesses the power of creation and can create anything he desires.
      • Creation of Life: As a Primordial God, Gǫllnir can create life.

Equipment[]

Járngreipr anime Járngreipr (Divine Steel Gauntlets) (神鋼の手套ヤールングレイプル, Yārungureipuru): A pair of gauntlets capable of resisting all attacks, created by Gǫllnir from ultra-dense orichalcum fibers. Currently, Járngreipr is associated with the Norse God of Thunder, Thor.
Book of Gǫllnir Book of Gǫllnir (The Forbidden Book) (ゴルニルの書, Goruniru no Sho): The Book of Gǫllnir contains the secrets of the hidden history of the gods and the world, as well as the method to resurrect the Primordial Gods. Written by Gǫllnir before his disappearance, it reveals the truth about the world and the history of the primordial deities.
Gellpnir Gleipnir (Weave of Sealed Gods) (封神織グレイプニル, Gureipuniru)[1]:A forbidden technique created by Gǫllnir using space-time technology, and employed by Izanagi, Eirin, and the other Primordial gods to seal Yggdrasil. It opens a vast rift where time appears to compress, generating a void powerful enough to draw in primordials such as Odin and slow Ymir's movements. However, this technique has inflicted serious injuries, even death, on many primordial gods who have used it. The seal is also strong enough to withstand the power of the Four Treasures of the Scourge, as Nostradamus claims.
Svengar Svengar (Magic Bell of Dreams) (夢の魔鐘スヴェフンガル, Suvefungaru):[2]An arcane-looking, medium-sized bell-like device invented by Gǫllnir. If rung, it induces a sleeping state on the individuals it's used against. The condition and exact requirements for causing this effect, as well the aftermath, are unknown.
Zvunza Gear-Zvunza (Storage of Cleverness) (機巧収蔵庫ギアズヴンザ, Giazuvunza):[2]A backpack corresponding to Gǫllnir's size. It bears a Dagaz rune. It appears that it's used to contain Gǫllnir's other inventions, possibly having an unlimited space within itself in order to store them.
Jotunspegl Jotunspegl (Dark Boulder Mirror) (岩冥鏡ヨトゥンスペギル, Yotunsupegiru):[3]

Trivia[]

  • In Norse Mythology, Gǫllnir is a giant that was mentioned in two sources. In Helgakviða Hundingsbana I, Sinfjötli accuses his opponent Guðmundr of having milked the she-goats of Gollnir. And in Völsunga Saga, he accuses his opponent (renamed Granmar) of having been Gollnir's goat-herd.
    • Gǫllnir is also one of the numerous names of Odin, meaning "Yeller".
