Nobutsuna "Sword Saint" Kamiizumi was a famous samurai who fought and won against Kojiro Sasaki. He was also Sekishusai Yagyu's teacher.

Appearance[]

Nobutsuna appears as an elderly man who wears a kimono and a haori with a very complicated design on it. He also wears a straw hat and is often seen with a small plant with two leaves in his mouth.

Personality[]

Nobutsuna appears to be a calm and optimistic gentleman. He has a deep passion for swordsmanship and a deep respect for Sasaki.

Past[]

On a rainy day, Kojiro Sasaki met the traveling Nobutsuna and requests to fight him. Nobutsuna accepts and easily defeats Kojiro who admits defeat, and then continues on his way.

Kojiro copies the sword masters

Kojiro Sasaki copies the techniques of Nobutsuna Kamiizumi and the other sword masters he has known in his life to attack Poseidon

During Kojiro Sasaki and Poseidon's fight, Nobutsuna was cheering for Kojiro, who even used some of Nobutsuna's moves during his fight. All the sword practitioners show their support for Kojiro, knowing that he has yet to show his full skills, which eventually leads to Kojiro's win.

Swordsmanship: He was a samurai in Japan's Sengoku period famous for creating the Shinkage-ryū school of combat. His swordsmanship style is known for its smooth combinations.

Supernatural Abilities[]

Golden Age: As a human soul in the afterlife, Nobutsuna posses the appearance and skills that he had during his Golden Age, the age in which he was at his peak.

Etymology[]

  • The name Nobutsuna means "belief" (信綱).
  • Nobutsuna's surname Kamiizumi means "above, top, upper" (上) (kami) and "spring, fountain" (泉) (izumi).
